Bellefontaine Cemetery Visit

August, 2024
by Lisa Picker, Class of 2018

After a great presentation at our chapter meeting by James Faupel (and Great Rivers member Andy Club!), Don Knobbe and I decided to check out Bellefontaine Cemetery and Arboretum. As lifelong St. Louisans, we had never been there. Boy, were we blown away. What a beautiful treasure! The integration of native plants in a traditional garden setting is a perfect example of what can be done in an urban setting. While there, we added a few things to the Bellefontaine iNaturalist project. Having long been interested in the green burial concept, seeing the meadow sealed the deal for us! I highly recommend that you visit, and will be adding their events and volunteer opportunities to my to-do list!
